EPL Board celebrates achievements of interim Executive Director, Caren Wakoli
There are some exciting developments taking place at Emerging Public Leaders as we announce our new Executive Director to lead on the delivery of an ambitious new strategic plan.
But firstly, the board and staff at EPL want to publicly acknowledge the huge growth and transformation that has been achieved under our interim Executive Director, Caren Wakoli, who we are extremely fortunate to still be working with as the founder and director of our Kenya partner, ELF-Africa.
While Caren is looking forward to returning full time to running her incredible organization that delivers our Fellows program in Kenya, she has said how enormously rewarding the leadership role for Emerging Public Leaders has been as she helped us expand into Kenya, built an incredible team, and set new goals and targets for the years ahead.
Here are some of her specific accomplishments that EPL’s next leader will continue to build upon to strengthen governance and improve public services for all in Africa:
A new strategic plan looks ahead to 2025, and what we want EPL’s scope, impact, structure and support to look like two years hence.
Growing the fellowship programs in Ghana and Liberia and making expansion possible into three other countries in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation.
EPL’s senior team now comprises Directors of Finance and Operations, Sustainability and Communications, and Programs and Learning, each of whom is deeply experienced in their field.
Similarly, the three country programs each have excellent leaders at the helm, who have filled out their teams to ensure a positive experience for fellows and alumni and meet Government partners’ expectations.
The Board of Directors now includes both accomplished individuals with valuable experience and global relationships, as well as representatives from the boards guiding our country programs.
Across the three fellowship programs, cohorts are approaching gender parity, and the strategic plan commits to reaching that parity and achieving other diversity goals. It is vital that EPL’s fellows represent the citizens of their countries in their own backgrounds and identities.
Details about the above, as well as other accomplishments and milestones, are contained in EPL’s 2022 annual report, which covers some of this period.
Our Chairperson, Betsy Williams, on behalf of the Board, also acknowledges the key role our early supporters have had in ensuring we are a fully fledged mature organization.
Thank you for your interest in Emerging Public Leaders and for your support of our mission and vision that we continue to pursue.
